Seven university students who jumped into Brisbane River during a party cruise have each been fined $2040.

The male University of Queensland students, all from Kings College, sparked a water police search after leaping from the Lady Brisbane on April 29.

The men swam to shore at St Lucia and were eventually arrested by police before being charged with breaching the Australian Maritime Safety Authority’s National Law Act.

The law states passengers on commercial vessels need to take reasonably care for their own safety and follow instructions issued by the vessel commanders.
