KARACHI: Waseem Khatri came from behind to win the third Chishty Memorial Scrabble Tournament played at the Beach Luxury Hotel here on Sunday evening.

 

Waseem won eight of his nine matches with a spread of 854.

 

The reining world youth scrabble champion Moiz Baig was in great form winning his first seven matches on the trot. He looked almost certain to take the title but narrow defeats in his last two matches to Waseem Khatri pushed him to the second position.

 

Moiz won seven matches and had the spread of 1,079. He averaged a remarkable 489 points per match; easily the highest of the tournament.

 

Rashid Khan finished third with seven wins and a spread of 783.Fifteen-year-old Tayyab Mirza finished fifth; the highest position of his young career.

 

Meanwhile, the highest match score of the tournament was scored by 11-year-old Taha Mirza when he thrashed Aleeza Ahmad by 606-345.
