KUALA LUMPUR: Donald Chung, 32, the grand prize winner of the Malaysia Airports Indulge Till You Fly 2013/2014 campaign was initially at his wit’s end as to how he was going to spend RM15,000 in 30 minutes at Harrods KLIA.

He started of by buying a teddy bear, keychains, umbrellas, tea towels and mugs.

The manager of a reflexology centre in Kuching, Sarawak, said he was lucky to have his mother Wong Ling’s help. The duo ended up loading their carts with at least 40 handbags.

Chung was required to spend RM1 million over two days at selected stores in KLIA which included Mode Creation Munich, or MCM, Habib Jewels and Gold City, among others.

When asked what he was going to do with the handbags, Chung said: “I may give them away to friends and relatives.”

Both Chung and his mum won a 15-day tour to Hong Kong, Tokyo, London, Paris, Milan and Dubai where they get to stay at five-star hotels and are chauffeur driven to premier shopping malls in these cities.

“I have never been to any of these cities and London is a dream come true as it is my favourite city,” said Chung.

Participants of the one-year campaign, which started in February last year, were required to spend at least RM250 at any F&B or retail outlet at the five international airports in the country.

The winners will be selected randomly by computer and the top winner of the month received a RM10,000 shopping voucher.

Chung, who travels to Kuala Lumpur once a month on business remembers spending a few hundred dollars at Flying Emporium at KLIA.

“I normally spend time shopping at the airport,” said Chung.

“I have never won any contest and never thought that I could win,” he added.
