Karate player held with 150 gram heroin
MOHALI: The police on Sunday arrested a karate player after 150 gm heroin valued at Rs 15 lakh in international market was recovered from him at naka near Mataur.
Police said Balbir Singh Balla, 29, had won many medals. Police claimed Balla told them that he had won a silver medal in 2012 international karate championship held in Batala. Balla, who also has a criminal past, was arrested by a police team headed by Mataur police station SHO Inspector Rajiv Kumar.
Kumar said Balla, who belongs to Tarn Taran district of Punjab, had procured the heroin from Amritsar and was meant for a customer in Mohali. The SHO said that they were trying to get hold of both these persons.
Police said Balla had last year kidnapped a girl and forcefully married her last year in December. A month later the girl was found dead under mysterious circumstances and a case of kidnapping was still pending against Balla in a Tarn Taran court. Police said Balla had married again.
