Jennifer Lopez promotes health and nutrition in the Bronx
In a surprise appearance in the Bronx on Sunday, Jenny returned to her old block to preach healthy eating.
Jennifer Lopez, fresh off a 22-day vegan diet challenge, showed up at the Montefiore Medical Center health fair looking slim and sounding at home.
“I like Sundays in the Bronx. It’s kind of quiet, everybody’s sleeping in late and they go to church. I miss that,” Lopez, who was born and raised in the borough, told the stunned crowd at Montefiore’s Norwood campus.
J.Lo appeared at the event to promote the hospital’s Center for Healthy Childhood, which has been the recipient of $250,000 from her Lopez Family Foundation.
“I grew up on rice and beans and pork chops,” the 44-year-old singer and actress told the crowd, prompting cheers. She said learning to eat healthy and stick to a plant-based diet was “scary.”
“But all it means is making grains and fruits and vegetables the main part of every meal we make,” Lopez said.
Noting the Bronx ranks last in overall health among New York’s 62 counties and that 50% of the borough’s children are obese, Lopez said, “I’m not having that!”
“No. This has to change,” said Lopez, the mother of 6-year-old twins. “We have to start doing good things for ourselves now.”
