LEXINGTON — Bucyrus junior Brittany Parsell was at a loss for words after competing in the 200-meter dash during Saturday’s Division II regional championships at Lexington high school.

Parsell finished runner-up with a blistering time of 25.57, making her 3-for-3 on the afternoon in qualifying the state meet. Earlier in the day, Parsell finished second in the 100 with a time of 12.41, then made her way to the long-jump pit to compete in the finals, advancing with a third-place leap of 16-8¾.

“It’s great,” Parsell said. “It’s amazing. I’ve been wanting it since I was 8 years old, and I guess I just finally believe that if you really want something, it’s possible.”

The Redmen junior did her best to choke back the tears of happiness while her third regional medal of the afternoon was draped around her neck. After she stepped down from the podium, Parsell couldn’t stop smiling, and the tears continued to build.

“It’s just mind-blowing,” she said.

The Galion girls’ 4×100 relay team of senior Laura McElligott, junior Michaela Slone, sophomore Sydney Hunt and junior Clair Erlsten also had reason to celebrate, winning the event with a school record of 49.24. The quartet finished seventh in the 4×200 with a personal best time of 1:46.28.

“We knew we probably wouldn’t make it out in the 4×200, we were focusing on this one,” McElligott said.

“This was our money event, that’s what the coaches said,” Slone added.

The boys’ 4×100 relay of sophomore Jacob Fryer, sophomore Drake Barnett, sophomore Khnennter Hughes and senior Alex Armistad will join the girls team at state with a fourth place time of 43.26.
