Third for Yamalube/Westby Racing at Road America
Elkhart Lake, WI (June 1, 2014) – Yamalube/Westby Racing’s Dane Westby earned the podium in Sunday’s AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike race from Road America. Dane was third in AMA Pro Racing’s most competitive class, behind Saturday winner Jake Gagne and fellow Yamalube-sponsored pilot JD Beach to earn the team’s first-ever AMA Pro podium in the team’s second race weekend.
“The Wolverine” clearly retained the blistering pace from Friday and spent the middle portion of the race sizing up his late-race strategy after moving up through the pack on the re-start. Westby and Beach fought for second before a light rain began to fall over the last two laps of the 12-lap contest. Dane chose to play it safe and finally reached the payoff for his efforts after running up front but finding disappointment in the season’s first two races.
Dane said, “It is absolutely amazing and a huge weight off my shoulders. After pilot error at Daytona and a component conflict yesterday … when you put together a team like we have done, you obviously want to produce results. We were able to come through, and there is more coming in future races. Today, I felt the wisest decision was to stay on the podium and let the guys go when it started raining. I wish it had been a really good battle to the finish, but that’s how it goes. The team did a great job on the little Yamalube bike and I’m glad it paid off today. We have a really cool thing going and it was a super weekend with all the fans coming out to a great track.”
Dane and Yamalube/Westby Racing return to action June 21-22 at Barber Motorsports Park and look to add to the team’s collection of AMA Pro Daytona SportBike trophies.
