THE St Joseph’s/Assumption team is using the Darling Downs Open Rugby League competition to finetune their form for the Confraternity Shield which will be held at the Gold Coast in the first week of the June/July school holidays.

Last week, the combined side went down 22-6 to a strong St Joseph’s team from Toowoomba.

St Joseph’s (Stanthorpe)/Assumption (Warwick) play their final game of the Darling Downs season this week against Stanthorpe High School.

The team is coached by Bob Bell with assistance from Dave Fleming, Craig Frattini, Mick Mahoney and Dominic Philp.

Last year, the Confraternity Shield was in Townsville and this year’s rugby league carnival will be hosted by Aquinas College at Southport.

Assumption College will field a netball team in the shield competition at the Gold Coast at the same time as the rugby league.
