Local roundup: Windham girls finish 9th in Class S
DANBURY — Windham’s Nicole Moore finished second in the triple jump (34 feet, 4 inches) and third in the long jump (16-6) on Wednesday to lead the Whippets to a ninth-place finish at the Class S track and field championship meet at Danbury High School.
Bloomfield won the team title over Coginchaug, 119-53.
Windham’s Brianna Starkey was third in the pole vault (9-0) and teammate Kadizha Benjamin was fifth in the javelin (97-0) for the Whippets, who finished with 24.5 points.
Lyman Memorial had a pair of top-six relay finishes. The 4×800 team of Alyssa Tacchi, Cailin Wadja, Hannah Kaplan and Kristina Olenick was third (10 minutes, 12.75 seconds), while the 4×1 team of Aubrey Coutu, Madison Adams, Annie DeVito and Kelly Wierzbicki finished sixth (51.74). Kaplan also finished fifth in the 1,600 (5:25.74) for the Bulldogs.
Tourtellotte’s Nicole Dion was third in the high jump (5-0) and Parish Hill freshman Sabrina Chesters was fourth in the 3,200 (11:44.37).
On the boys’ side, Lyman Memorial’s Holt Sihvonen was second in the javelin (170-1) and Putnam’s Jordan Rodriguez finished sixth in the discus (133-8).
Bloomfield also won the boys title, 133-62, over Canton.

Plainfield wins title
PLAINFIELD — The Plainfield Royals won the QVJC Championship Tuesday with a 10-0 win over Thompson. Izaiah Thompson hit a two-run home run, Rodman Edwards went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and Christopher Peasley had two RBIs for Plainfield.
Cooper Wade pitched five innings, allowing just three hits with three strikeouts for Plainfield, which went 13-1 on the season and won back-to-back titles.

MONTVILLE — Jordan Zeppieri homered twice and drove in five runs as the Indians advanced to the quarterfinals for the 12th consecutive season. Chad Mooney scattered five hits in five-plus innings, Buddy Dewaine scored three runs and Jeremy Sagun had a pair of RBIs for Montville (20-4), which hosts defending champion St. Joseph in the quarterfinals at 3:30 p.m. Friday.

STONINGTON — Emily Grey had four goals and three assists to lead seven scorers as the Bears held Northwest Catholic to just one second-half goal to earn the win. Hannah Johnson added three goals and two assists for Stonington (18-1), who hosts Immaculate in a quarterfinal game today.

ROCKY HILL — Theresa Kane went 3-for-5 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI but took the loss as the Bears’ season ended. Brooke Arruda hit a grand slam and Emma Miller doubled twice and scored two runs for Stonington (16-7).
