Tom Hiddleston Will Star As Country Icon Hank Williams And Perform Own Singing
The Thor villain straps on a guitar for the country western biopic.
Loki goes country. Tom Hiddleston will play Country & Western legend Hank Williams in the biographical film I Saw The Light, according to Deadline.
The film, based on the biography written by Colin Escott, will star the Avengers villain, who will also handle the singing duties of his character.
Hank died at the young age of 29 of heart failure in 1953, and the movie will feature his “meteoric rise to fame, and the price that fame took on his personal life,” according to Deadline.
The country star had 11 number one hits, but struggled with alcohol and drugs. His son Hank Williams Jr. first found his own musical success playing his father’s hits.
Production begins in October in Lousiana. The film’s backers secured the rights to Hank’s hit such as Your Cheatin’ Heart, I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry, Hey Good Lookin’, all of which Tom will sing.
Aside from his villainous turns in Marvel’s two Thor films and The Avengers, he also starred in Woody Allen’s Midnight In Paris and Steven Spielberg’s War Horse. He’s currently filming Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak.
