National curling competition underway in Diamondale

DIMONDALE — The USA Curling 2014 USA Curling Arena National Championships are underway in Dimondale and will continue through Sunday.

 

Admission is free for the event at the The Summit Sports and Ice Complex, 9410 Davis Highway.

 

Games will happen at 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. today. On Saturday, there are games at 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. and at 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., said Mark McElwee, president of the Lansing Curling Club.

 

The semifinals kick off at 9 a.m. Sunday, with championship and bronze-metal games beginning at 1 p.m. Winners earn “glory, fame and a medal,” McElwee said.

 

The competition features 16 men’s teams and 16 women’s teams from as far as San Francisco and Texas and includes a men’s and a women’s team from the Lansing club, McElwee said.
