Hershberger takes 9th place
Kansas State senior Ryan Hershberger ended his Wildcat track and field career with a career-best showing in the shot put at the NCAA Division-I Outdoor Track and Field Championships being held this week in Eugene, Ore.
Hershberger, a Clay Center native, continued his recent stretch of strong performances with a ninth place finish Wednesday in his first ever NCAA Championships. He registered a personal best shot put of 63’3.5” in his third throw of the day.
He narrowly missed a top-eight finish, but recorded one of the best overall performances by a Wildcat men’s shot putter in nearly three decades. Hershberger also secured his spot at number five all-time in K-State history, while becoming only the fifth Wildcat in program history to register a throw of 63-plus feet.
Hershberger is a 2009 graduate of CCCHS and holds school records in the shot put and the discus throw. He holds the CCCHS record in the shot put at 59’1.25” and in the discus throw at 168’10.5”, both recorded his senior year in 2009.
