Riding a wave — Jet skiers display skills in keen competition off Marina
The Bride of the Red Sea, Jeddah, has superb weather and a long coastline that enables people to savor water sports all year round. One of the most favorite sport is Jet Skiing in the corniche.
The inviting turquoise blue water provides jet skiers a haven for them to enjoy their sport and stay cool.
In order to give this sport a fillip while also encouraging healthy competition, the Saudi Arabian Maritime Sports Federation (SAMSF) is holding an ongoing tournament that has got a number of jet skiers to show off their skills.
The first stage of a ski jet competition was launched recently at the Marina under the aegis of Prince Bandar Bin Naser Bin Abdulaziz. Deputy head of the SAMSF Abdullah Al-Khorayef inaugurated the event. The event was preceded by a show conducted by the participating competitors.
The event was supervised by the Presidency of Youth Welfare, and consisted of beginners and professionals, They competed intensely for qualification for the second stage. The second stage of the competition will take place between June 20 and 21.
At the end of the first stage, Prince Bandar and Al-Khorayef honored the winners, and the competition judges from the United Arab Emirates. Al-Khorayef also thanked Prince Bandar for his patronage and presented him with a shield.
Prince Bandar expressed his appreciation of the competition, which supports Saudi youth and marine sports, and is considered an important part of local tourism. He called upon businessmen to support the sport and allow the Kingdom to participate in international events.
Al-Khoraeyf said the head of SAMSF Awwad Al-Baluwi supports all marine sports and encouraged the public to also come out in support of marine sports. “Plans are under way to conduct a number of activities and competitions after the month of Ramadan, and these activities will be held in various parts of the country,” he said.
