@HiddenCash scavenger hunt takes Central Park, Prospect Park by storm
It’s the most lucrative scavenger hunt in town.
More than 2,000 people scoured Central Park and Prospect Park Saturday, frantically searching for envelopes of cash stashed by the altruistic group, Hidden Cash.
Clues to the location of the money comes via the Twitter handle, @HiddenCash, which features photos of the cache, as well as retweets of lucky winners who scored a cool $50 or more and other prizes.
The account has 557,000 followers.
“I saw it on Twitter and I said I got to get over there and see if I can find some money,” said Malik Chenault, 39, of the Bronx, who was hunting in Central Park
“It’d be nice to get some free money, I could use it to buy some toys for my kids.”
Organizers of the hidden treasure game say it’s a “social experience for good” and encourage people to be charitable with the extra money.
Real estate investor Jason Buzi, 43, started the game in San Francisco last month and it quickly became a phenomenon.
The hidden cash will soon pop up in Chicago, Mexico and Europe.
“I’m busting my butt because I need this money for college,” said Terrell Sides, 20, of Jamaica Queens. “I don’t care if I find 20 cents or $20, I’ll take it!”
