Rio de Janeiro: He can croon a few lines of popular Tamil and Hindi film songs with gusto. He can also set the floor on fire through his Bollywood and Kollywood dance moves.

He loves all things Indian even though he lives thousands of kilometres away. He is not a desi. Peruvian showman Oscar Alejandro aka Zumba grabbed the attention of all in the Sao Paulo media centre with his quirky dresses.

Wearing a thick, black headband, Batman leotard and an overcoat with oversized golden collars, Zumba was colourful from top to toe. An accreditation was dangling from his neck and the bundle of energy was in Sao Paulo to do an off-beat show for a Peruvian TV.

The part-time actor and full-time showman from Lima was a member of the dance crew in the kilimanjaro song, shot in Machu Picchu in Peru, in Rajnikanth starrer, Robot.

“I can say proudly I danced with Rajnikanth and Aishwarya Rai. I fell in love with the peppy beats of the song. Robot choreographer Raju Sundaram liked my dance and invited me to India for some programmes. That’s how my love affair with your country started,” he said.

Zumba had a whale of a time in Chennai in, shooting for Vijay TV’s “Who is the next Prabhu Deva?”, a dance reality show in Tamil.

“Choreographer Prabhu Deva, too, loves me,” the Peruvian said as he showcased a couple of intricate moves of the younger brother of Raju Sundaram. The fan of actor Surya also belted out a few popular Tamil numbers with great enthusiasm.

The colourful man who has a central role in a fun-filled TV reality show back home said he is crazy about India. “I love Indians, their languages and culture. I can’t wait to visit your country again,” he added.
