A classic tune by The Beatles provided the backdrop for a performance by Dubbo Ballet Studio during yesterday’s Dubbo Eisteddfod session.
Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds was a dreamscape performed as part of the Open Contemporary Group/Troupes section.
Groups from Dubbo, Orange and Mudgee contested the section.
Dubbo Ballet Studio placed third behind Dubbo’s Stepping Out Dance Factory and Mudgee’s Dance Unlimited.
The performers were rehearsing when the Daily Liberal visited the Dubbo Regional Theatre.
“The central character is Lucy, and it’s a dreamscape suggesting a culmination of all her dreams,” Dubbo Ballet Studio principal Anna Bloomfield explained.
It had been choreographed by former Dubbo student Joseph Simons, she said.
The performers, whose ages ranged from 13 to 22, had been working on the item since about October last year.
“The students spend up to 25 hours a week rehearsing,” Ms Bloomfield said.
“They are all very dedicated, as are their families. It takes a lot of hard work and consistent effort.”
Students from Dubbo Ballet Studio would barely pause for a breath before heading off to the McDonald’s Eisteddfod in Sydney next weekend.
