A hockey game and open skate to benefit Dean Macklen, a 2009 graduate of Struthers High School who has been fighting three cancers since September, and his family will take place Saturday at the Ice Zone, 360 McClurg Road.

The event, “Hockey’s More Than Just a Game,” is being organized by several of his friends and former hockey teammates. The two-period hockey game with a lights-out shootout will be from 4:15 to 5 p.m. Public skating will follow from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Admission is $5 per person, per event, and tickets will be available at the door.

An auction will also take place, with tickets for $1 each or $5 for six. Basket donations still are being accepted.

Champion Township trustees and Trumbull County Planning Commission will have a community meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday regarding the Champion comprehensive plan being developed.

The focus of the meeting will be to gather public input regarding the township-owned 80-acre parcel on state Route 45 south of Champion High School.

The meeting will take place in Room 117 in the Technology Building at Kent State University at Trumbull, 4314 Mahoning Ave. NW.

The township’s last comprehensive plan was written in 2001, and the next one should guide growth and development over the next 20 years.

Humility of Mary Health Partners is offering a free community workshop at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center, 8401 Market St., about a clinically proven, minimally invasive balloon technology to treat chronic sinusitis.

The Balloon Sinuplasty System by Acclarent uses a small catheter and balloon to open and expand blocked sinuses, a procedure that can bring relief to those who suffer from chronic sinus pain, pressure, infections, headaches, congestion, fatigue and other symptoms.

The session is free, and refreshments will be provided. For information and to register, visit HMpartners.org/sinus.
