State overhauls Ga. storm, disaster application
ATLANTA (AP) – State officials have introduced an improved version of the Ready Georgia mobile application, which is designed to help Georgians stay safe during emergencies.
In a statement Monday, Gov. Nathan Deal said the application features severe weather an emergency notifications, real-time traffic information and a map of local emergency shelters.
Deal says overhauling the application was a priority for a severe weather and disaster preparedness task force after a series of winter storms.
Officials say users will still be able to keep an emergency supply checklist, create customized disaster plans and find contact information for local emergency management agencies.
Officials say the Georgia Emergency Management Agency worked with the National Weather Service, the Georgia Department of Transportation, Georgia Tech and The Weather Channel to develop the program.
