Louisiana-Lafayette suspends reserve QB
LAFAYETTE, La. — Louisiana-Lafayette reserve quarterback Jalen Nixon has been suspended and backup cornerback Simeon Thomas is academically ineligible for the 2014 season.
Sports Information Director Matt Sullivan tells The Advertiser (http://bit.ly/1oCnTg2 ) that Nixon was suspended indefinitely for violation of team rules.
The nature of Nixon’s violation wasn’t disclosed. He’s expected to miss the entire 2014 season.
Nixon finished the year with 6-of-12 passing for 108 yards and one touchdown. Thomas played nine games last season, missing the first three while awaiting the NCAA to rule if he had met initial academic qualifying standards.
Sullivan said Monday that both Nixon and Thomas remain on the team, remain on scholarship and will be allowed to continue practicing with the team.
