ODESSA – A new park at the Boys and Girls Club of Odessa is helping the group teach kids about gardening.

City officials gave the land and water to the group and forest tire donated funds to help build it.

Employees with Vivint Alarm Systems also helped out with some of the hard work.

Master gardeners will be at the park to share their skills with the kids.

The club tells NewsWest 9, the idea came from a University of Texas of the Permian Basin professor.

“Our idea came from Professor Chris Stanley, our good friend from UTPB. He thought this idea up and he’s really been the driving force behind it, getting the volunteers and getting the plans in place,” Linda Lawson, Associate Director at the Boys & Girls Club, said.

About 500 children are expected to participate in the club’s summer programs.
