Collaboraction Announces THIS IS NOT A CURE FOR CANCER Community Partners

As a key component of its new “incite change” mission, Collaboraction announces its network of Community Partners who are supporting This is Not a Cure for Cancer, the company’s upcoming world premiere live theater event attacking cancer, its treatment and the way we live.

The American Cancer Society, Gilda’s Club Chicago, The Heartwood Foundation, Mary Andrus Art Therapy, the Metropolitan Chicago Breast Cancer Task Force, Merz Apothecary, the Ovarian Cancer Symptom Awareness Organization, Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care and A Silver Lining Foundation have all partnered with Collaboraction to help with show research, connect Collaboration to cancer patients and their families, sponsor specific performances, share in the ticket proceeds, and co-moderate post-show Town Hall discussions with Artistic Director Anthony Moseley about cancer, treatment, prevention and the meaning of life.

Performances of This is Not a Cure for Cancer are February 20-March 30, 2014 at Collaboraction, on the third floor of the Flat Iron Arts Building, 1579 N. Milwaukee Ave., in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood. Press opening is Thursday, February 27 at 7 p.m. Fcollaboraction.org or call 312.226.9633.

Following is the schedule of how and when each organization will share their knowledge with Collaboraction’s audiences, promote their services, and generally throw their support behind This is Not a Cure for Cancer:

Gilda’s Club Chicago – Sunday, Feb. 23, March 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, 3 p.m.

Representatives from Gilda’s Club Chicago will be on hand at Collaboration for every Sunday matinee of This is Not a Cure for Cancer. Dovetailing its mission, Gilda’s Club representatives will help ensure people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action and sustained by community. They will co-host the Sunday post-show discussions, and a portion of each Sunday’s ticket proceeds will be donated back to Gilda’s Club Chicago to support its mission. Mary Andrus Art Therapy – Wednesday, February 26, 7:30 p.m.

She provides personal counseling to identify problem areas and then works with individuals in the process of creating to provide relief and understanding. Andrus will explain and demonstrate her approach during the post-show discussion with Artistic Director Anthony Moseley. For more information visit art-therapy.org.
