Airline refuses to refund grieving man’s ticket

A PASSENGER whose wife died from cancer after he’d spent $2200 on flights for their getaway was shocked to be denied a refund by budget airline Easyjet.

Thomas Douglas-Woods, 85, booked two trips to Malta with his wife Margaret months before her death, the Daily Star reported.

The couple, from Wirral, UK, were due to travel in June and September last year.

However, Margaret was declared too sick to travel after the bookings were made, and later died from pancreatic cancer.

The pensioner wrote to EasyJet but claims the airline ignored his complaint for months.

“I think it’s absolutely disgusting,” Douglas-Woods said. “This is a genuine case, it’s not someone who’s broken down on the way to the airport.

“When somebody says: ‘My wife is dying, I can’t go,’ they should take notice.”

EasyJet has since paid up after the situation was made public by the Daily Star.

A spokesman apologised and said: “EasyJet is a no-refunds airline, however we fully understand that our customers’ travel plans and circumstances may change due to a bereavement. We can confirm that the refund has now been processed in full.”

EasyJet has been contacted for further comment.
