Ramsbottom pair in 62-mile, 6-hour cycle challenge for charity
Getting ready for the challenge are Helen McCreadie and Michelle Entwistle. They will be taking part in the Women V Cancer Ride The Night on May 31.
A WOMAN whose twin sister died from cancer will take part in the first all-female night ride for charity.
Helen McCreadie will cycle 62 miles around London through the night for Women V Cancer Ride The Night on May 31.
Ms McCreadie, from Ramsbottom, will take part in the event along with her friend Michelle Entwistle, whose mother was successfully treated for cancer last year.
As part of their fundraising, both women, who are maths teachers at Oldham College, have organised a charity night at The Mouse Trap cafe in Bolton Street, Ramsbottom, tomorrow.
Ms McCreadie, aged 41, lost her sister Wendy Mart, aged 40, to ovarian cancer a week before Christmas last year.
Since January, she has raised £1,600 for Breast Cancer Care, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, and Ovarian Cancer Action — tripling her target of £500.
She said: “It was awful what we went through as a family. It’s what really spurred me on to do this.
I’ve got a phenomenal fund-raising total and I hope to reach around £2,000.
“I didn’t want to do this cycle ride on my own, so I want to thank Michelle for her support.”
As part of her training, Ms McCreadie has cycled 20 miles along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. The charity night at The Mouse Trap is tomorrow at 7.30pm. Tickets £10.
