Scholarship open to those affected by cancer

One New Jersey student who lost his mother to cancer while in college is helping other students in similar situations.

Marna’s Pals is currently accepting applications from New Jersey students whose families have been affected by cancer. The deadline is March 31.

David Pal’s mother died from pancreatic cancer in 2008, just two years after his father passed away. He was able to complete his studies at Rutgers University with the help of friends, family and scholarships. Now, he is working on completing his doctorate at Princeton University.

To help other students focus on completing their studies while coping with cancer, Pal and Elizabeth Diaz founded Marna’s Pals.

They have raised more than $60,000 and are developing support groups at local universities.
