SaberCats update: Rookie quarterback Nathan Stanley is coming off a sizzling performance in last week’s 70-33 win over the Philadelphia Soul that earned him AFL offensive player of the week honors. Stanley, making his first start with Russ Michna sidelined because of a concussion, threw for six touchdowns, ran for another, and was 18-of-28 passing for 249 yards. … San Jose (2-0) scored on each of its seven possessions. … The SaberCats have a 2-1 edge in this series, including a 78-20 win last year at Pittsburgh that was the largest margin of victory by a road team in Arena Football League history.

Power update: This game is the debut of Ron James as coach. James took over when Derek Stingley was fired after the Power’s 63-53 season-opening loss to the Cleveland Gladiators, in a game they led by 10 heading into the fourth quarter. Pittsburgh (0-1) was off last week. … The loss was the Power’s 17th in its last 19 games at home. … James spent four seasons as coach of the defunct Utah Blaze. … Quarterback Tommy Grady is one of three offensive weapons James coached with the Blaze. In 2012, Grady set league records for passing attempts, yards, completions and touchdowns, earning MVP honors. … Pro Football Hall of Famer Lynn Swann is a co-owner of the Power.
