On Saturday, April 5, at 5:30 p.m., the Charlie Elliott Chapter of the Atlanta Astronomy Club will hold their monthly meeting with special guest Dr. Julius L. Benton, Jr.
The Charlie Elliott chapter is pleased to present the author and noted planet observer Dr. Benton to explain how beginner and amateur astronomers with even the most modest equipment can see the rings and satellites of Saturn from their own backyards.
As a member of the Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society (FRAS), Dr. Benton has written many articles on planetary observing.
His 2005 book “Saturn and How to Observe It” provides a collection of the latest information, and amateur and professional Saturn images, followed by advice on how to best observe Saturn using a variety of telescope color filters and magnifications.
Dr. Benton is coordinator of the Venus and Saturn observing sections for the Association of Lunar & Planetary Observers (ALPO), a worldwide organization of professional astronomers and serious students of solar system astronomy.
The program is free and open to the public and will be geared toward the public with a number of graphics and visual aids to show the how’s and why’s of observing Saturn.
After Dr. Benton’s presentation, there will be a short “What’s up!” presentation of what you can expect to see in the April sky with binoculars and small telescopes.
The Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center is located at 543 Elliott Trail, Mansfield, GA, 30055, off Highway 11.
