LAKERS HAND OUT AWARDS

WALLACEBURG – Goalie Joel Sowinski won the MVP award at the Wallaceburg Lakers’ annual banquet Saturday.

Other winners included: Mike Kindrachuk, best defenceman; Lucais Meyskens, best defensive forward; Trevor Waller, most sportsmanlike; Mike Zottl, rookie of the year; Mike Brown, most desire; Justin Whitson, top scorer; and Scott Lubbers, Heart and Soul Memorial Award in honour of Tristan Carswell.

The family of Lakers player Jason White received a framed jersey. White died in a vehicle crash in February.

FOX AWARD RUNNER-UP

Thamesville’s Dane Fox of the Erie Otters was a finalist for the Ontario Hockey League player of the week award Monday.

Fox had three goals and five assists in three games last week as the Otters beat the Saginaw Spirit in a five-game quarter-final. He leads the OHL playoff scoring race with 12 points.

MCGREGOR IN DOUBLE DIGITS

HAMILTON – Alec McGregor of Chatham scored 12 points for the Riverside Falcons in a 50-30 semifinal loss to the London Ramblers at the Blessed Sacrament major bantam boys basketball tournament Sunday.

McGregor scored 15 points in a 48-44 loss to the Nepean Blue Devils, 23 in a 58-44 win over Stoney Creek Newman Youth and 13 in a 54-45 win over the Mississauga Jaguars.

The Falcons lost 51-42 to Nepean in the bronze-medal game.
