SHE has been playing volleyball for about three years and at age 14, Carrie Van Rensburg has visions of taking her passion for the game to the top.

The Sandhurst resident, who was converted from hard court to beach volleyball about 18 months ago, recently represented Victoria in the national junior beach volleyball championships held in Glenelg, South Australia.

She and partner Tahlya Walker, of Ocean Grove, took a bronze medal in the under 17s division.

‘I have another two years in the 17s and I want to win gold in the next two years,” she said.

The medal is the latest in a long line of achievements that includes school competition with Haileybury College’s first team and participation in the open women’s section of the Vicbeach beach volleyball series.

‘I just realised it’s a sport that I really do enjoy and I might as well make the most of it,” Carrie said.

But she knows there is plenty of hard work ahead of her.

‘Beach volleyball is a sport where no matter how much you do you are never going to be perfect at it,” she said.
