While the Eagles made the sexy splash this week by signing speedy receiver DeSean Jackson, the Cowboys in free agency have been … hmm. Let’s see.
They’ve technically only lost two players in Jason Hatcher and Danny McCray, since DeMarcus Ware was officially released before being picked up by the Broncos. The Cowboys have signed Brandon Weeden as a third quarterback and Jeremy Mincey, Henry Melton and Terrell McClain to bolster the defensive line.
So what’s left? The Cowboys still have eight free agents to decide upon. A look at their chances of returning to Dallas:
Anthony Spencer – As I’ve said before, his injury concerns make it likely that he’ll wind up back in Dallas. He has visited, however, with the Giants and Redskins.
Brian Waters – The veteran offensive lineman crawled off his couch to help the Cowboys last season, but seems unlikely he’ll be anything but retired this season.
Jon Kitna – Cowboys will keep his number handy – just in case – but for now he’s go back to coaching high-school football near Seattle.
Ernie Sims – Since Devonte Holloman is a younger, cheaper version with similar skills, the veteran linebacker will be a former Cowboy.
Edgar Jones – Has some special teams skills and the Cowboys don’t have the luxury of running off defensive ends, so we’ll probably be in Oxnard.

Ryan Cook – Backup center is only a memory at Valley Ranch.
