Opposition briefs filed in LG tower height case

Several conservation groups have filed legal briefs in the fight over a planned electronics company building along the Palisades by the Hudson River.

The New Jersey Conservation Foundation says about a dozen environmental and conservation groups filed “friend of the court” briefs on Monday in an appeal of a Superior Court judge’s decision granting LG Electronics a height variance to erect a 143-foot tower at its Englewood Cliffs location.

Elected officials from New Jersey and New York, including New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman have also filed legal papers opposing the height variance.

Opponents say the structure will spoil the scenic beauty to the area north of the George Washington Bridge and open the door to further development.

A message left for a spokesman for LG was not immediately returned.
