Kingston to Host Canadian Cross Country Championships
Athletics Canada has announced that Kingston has won the right to host the 2015 to 2018 editions of the Canadian Cross Country Championships after Physi-Kult Running Group led the winning bid.
“Physi-Kult is excited and honoured to have won the hosting right to the 2015-2018 Canadian Cross Country Championships and are looking forward to showcasing the wonderful venue we have here in Kingston,” said Race Organizer, Clive Morgan.
“In association with the City of Kingston, Fort Henry and CFB Kingston we aim to host a first class event here in the Limestone City, added Morgan. “Kingston has a long history of hosting quality championship cross country events at this venue and we will continue that legacy with Athletics Canada’s Cross Country Championship.”
a number of significant national and international events have been hosted at the CFB Kingston/Fort Henry Cross Country course, including the 2008 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Championship, the 2009 Canadian Interuniversity Sport Championship, the 2010 International University Sports Federation Championship and the 2012 Athletics Ontario Championship.
Athletics Canada described the course as being ‘extremely spectator friendly and run entirely on grass with very few flat spots’.
“(We look) forward to Kingston hosting the event, cross country is an integral part of our organization and we’re looking forward to working with Steve Boyd (assistant race organizer) and his team to deliver a once-in-a-life-time experience for all participants,” said the Oorganization’s Chief Executive Officer, Rob Guy.
He went on to say that “With Athletics Alberta ratifying the membership fee increase to support self-funded teams over the weekend we now have full support from all provincial branch partners. Ratification at the upcoming Athletics Canada AGM will mean that, beginning in 2015, all national team programs, including cross country, will be fully funded.”
Jeff Garrah, CEO of the Kingston Economic Development Corporation (KEDCO), also tweeted the announcement yesterday.
Very proud of my Tourism team and partners: today Athletics Canada announced 2015-2018 cross country championships will be in KINGSTON!
