The Lady Bulldogs Varsity track team showed just how deep they are as they totally dominated the opposition at the Bandera Bulldog Nation Late Season Relays on Thursday, March 27 at Bulldog Nation Stadium. The Lady Bulldogs scored 170 points while the nearest opposing team only scored 99 points. Freshman Kaitlyn Rodriguez had the highest point total for the varsity, while another freshman, Alex Bauml scored points in five different events. Rodriguez, Bauml, Josie Burns, Lenise McHazlett, and Mercy Yermo all earned gold medals. In JV action, Catherine Ringel scored 21 of the 43 junior varsity points.
Less than a week later, on Wednesday April 2, both the Lady Bulldog Varsity and Junior Varsity track and field teams placed third in their respective divisions at the 2014 Bandera Bulldog Nation Pre-District High School Relays. Only the extremely strong 4A Kerrville Tivy teams and the teams from Hondo placed ahead of the Lady Bulldogs. The varsity was only 12 points out of second place and would have finished second, if the Lady Bulldog varsity team had not been divided into two separate teams. The junior varsity missed placing second by a single point. In the varsity division, Mercy Yermo accumulated the most individual points with 21 while Julie Hatch scored 25 points in the junior varsity division.
All of the Bulldog track teams will head to Canyon Lake High School for the District 27-3A Track and Field meet on Wednesday and Thursday, April 9 and 10.
