Peters Named Reining Rider of the Month

Oklahoma State equestrian rider Justine Peters was named National Collegiate Equestrian Association Reining Rider of the Month for March, it was announced today.

Peters, a sophomore from Dalton, Neb., posted a 4-1 record in March, picking up a Most Outstanding Performer award to open the month of action. The honor came after her 69.5-66.5 victory against Baylor on March 1. Two weeks later, on March 15, she tallied a 71.5-70.5 win over Tennessee-Martin to close out the regular season.

At the Big 12 Championship semifinal round, Peters scored a 142-140 win against Kansas State, the highest score in the event on the day for the Cowgirls. The next day in the final round against Baylor, she picked up her fourth win of the month in a close matchup, 139.5-139.

Peters heads into nationals with an 11-2 record, winning three straight. She was also named a 2013-14 NCEA Second Team All-American.

OSU has cornered the market on the award in the reining discipline in 2014, earning it in all three months of action. Mackenzie Fugitt received the honor in January and Jenna Blumer garnered the award in February. Samantha Harrison was also named Equitation on the Flat rider of the Month for January.
