A conservation camp in northern New Hampshire gives children and teens the chance to live in the wilderness and learn skills like shooting, tracking and fishing.
The Barry Conservation Camp offers week-long overnight camps for boys and girls ages 8 and up, with some specialty camps geared to the older age group.
Campers live in newly-renovated cabins in the White Mountain National Forest. Registration is limited to 38 campers each session, with slots set aside for girls and boys.
Several of the more popular camps already have filled the spaces allotted for girls. These include the North Country adventure camp, hunter education camp and 4-H shooting sports camp.
The camps are run by the UNH Cooperative Extension, 4-H program and the state Fish and Game Department.
