Fantasy Football 2014 Outlook: Kenny Stills VS Joe Morgan
It’s never too early to start talking fantasy football, right? The 2014 Saints are far from being shaped but I think we already have some positional battles that can be discussed. Let’s start this fantasy football showdown: Kenny Stills or Joe Morgan? Don’t forget to cast your vote when you’re done reading, you’ll find the poll at the end of the article!
Kenny Stills
After Lance Moore’s departure Kenny Stills became the “official” No. 2 wide receiver on the Saints roster. On paper, he still is the third option for Drew Brees behind Jimmy Graham and Marques Colston but if the latter isn’t healthy (age is becoming a factor…) and disappears for five or six games like he did in 2013 Stills instantly turns into a good candidate for that WR2 spot on your team. Already a solid WR3, Stills is ranked 56th overall on NFL.com’s 2014 fantasy football player rankings.
He might see less big-play targets with the return of JoMo but I’m sure Sean Payton will somehow exploit his speed. Last year Stills catched 32 balls for 641 yards and 5 TDs and I definitely expect those numbers to go up in 2014 as he will benefit from the departure of Darren Sproles in terms of targets.
Joe Morgan
Despite a short and injury-plagued career the Saints decided to bet on Joe Morgan once again. He showed enough talent in 2012 and during the 2013 offseason to convince Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis to offer him a one-year deal to prove himself. In 2012 he played 14 games and started 5 of them, finishing the season with 10 receptions for 379 yards and 3 TDs.
If he can stay healthy I think he will absolutely see more targets: I know that’s a big ‘if’, let’s just keep our fingers crossed. Not listed in NFL.com’s list of the top-80 fantasy football wide receivers for 2014, Morgan can be initially used as a bye-week fill-in but has the potential to become a decent WR4/(desperate) Flex Option.
