FISHING REPORT: The Potomac Bite is GREAT!!

Water is clear and warming up! One of the best weeks in a long time! Open the tacklebox and put the trolling motor on high!

Water has jumped to near 70! Fish are up shallow and are eating. NBC Ch. 4 meteorologist “Weather Kim” Martucci says, “Monday will be delightful into the low 70s, but a cold front on Tuesday will bring some rain. The rest of the week will cool into the upper 50s but be dry. Mornings start in the upper 30s to mid 40s by the end of the week!

Bass are reacting well to chatter jigs with soft jerkbait trailers. Use 12-pound test GAMMA Edge fluorocarbon line on a medium heavy rod. Fish are sucking the bait in and moving with it. Use a longer rod and faster Quantum Tour reels to take up slack for hooksets.

Mann’s Baby 1-Minus works around wood or grass at lower tides. For higher tide applications try Lucky Craft SKT MR on 12-pound test Copoly. Crank around wood and over deeper grass. Also try Lucky Craft lipless LVR D-7 crankbaits, snapping out of grass.

For soft plastics, pitch Mizmo tubes rigged Texas style on 3/0 Mustad Ultra Point Tube hooks. Target seawalls, trees and other cover. Use 12-14 pound test Edge and a 3/16-ounce bullet weight. Also rig with an insert head to skip under docks and trees. A braid/fluorocarbon leader combo is perfect. Try 20-pound test or lighter Torque braid with 10-12 pound test Edge. Soak tubes in garlic flavor Jack’s Juice.

Fish have moved into creeks and are in spawning areas. Large grass beds are full of bass and they are getting aggressive. Make a lot of casts and keep moving to find groups of fish.
