Colonels Drop Series Finale At Tennessee-Martin
Despite jumping out to a 4-0 lead, the Eastern Kentucky baseball team lost 9-4 in the series finale at Tennessee-Martin on Sunday. The Colonels won two of the three games.
It was Alas’ second homer of the series and the season. It was also Fisher second dinger of the year.
The Skyhawks got two back in the bottom of the third. Chase Young scored on a double down the left field line by Taylor Douglas. A single to right-center by Taylor Cox brought home Douglas. An RBI single by Max Balter one inning later cut the UTM deficit to one, 4-3.
Cox tied the game in the sixth with a lead-off home run, his first of the season. He then gave the Skyhawks the lead in the seventh with an RBI single up the middle. Douglas put the game away for UTM with a bases clearing double down the left field line in the bottom of the eighth to give his team a 9-4 lead.
Kyle Nowlin, Kenny Hostrander and Alas each had two hits for the Colonels Douglas and Cox went a combined 6-for-6 with seven RBIs and two runs scored for the Skyhawks.
Logan Hershenow (1-2) suffered the loss after giving up one run on one hit in one inning of relief. John Houston (2-1) picked up the win after tossing three innings of scoreless relief. He gave up three hits, did not walk a batter and struck out four.
Freshman Caleb Johnson started for the Colonels. He allowed four runs on seven hits in five and two-third innings. Johnson walked two and struck out four. Alex Martin started for UT Martin. He allowed four runs on seven hits in six innings. He walked six and struck out three.
Eastern Kentucky will face Miami (Ohio) at home on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
