Notable: Lincoln Park’s girls team won the District 14-2A meet last week, while the boys team finished second, but this region will be difficult. Caleb Potorff ranks second in the region in the 3,200-meter run and sixth in the 1,600, based on results submitted to FLRunners.com this season. Michael Walters will be in the mix for a state berth in the high jump, ranking in a tie for fifth in the region. The top four ranked athletes have heights of 6-foot-2 or better. Louis D’Avino ranks eighth in the 300 hurdles. No area girls rank in the top eight in the region in any events, but that doesn’t necessarily mean no one is seeded in the top eight, as FLRunners.com rankings are based on season-long results and do not reflect whether individuals qualified for the region. Lincoln Park’s Shikinah Williams qualified for state in the triple jump last year, and Wilsandly Jacques competed in the 100.
What’s next: The top four in each event qualify for the Class 2A state meet May 2 at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.

Notable: The John Carroll boys team won the District 13-1A meet last week with ease and should do well in this region. According to a virtual meet on FLRunners.com, the Golden Rams are projected to place third. Austin Laszewicki is favored to win the 110-meter hurdles, Edwin Thomas ranks fourth in the 100, Matt Carr is fourth in discus, the 4×100 relay ranks fourth and the 4×400 ranks second. On the girls side, John Carroll’s Hunter Sullivan is projected to win the discus and shot put, according to a virtual meet on FLRunners.com. She enters with a five-foot advantage on her shot put and is 16 feet ahead in the discus. Pine School’s Avery Camp needs to drop some time in the two-mile to qualify for state, but is in the hunt in the 1,600. Thomas and Sullivan both made it to state last year.
What’s next: The top four in each event qualify for the Class 1A state meet May 2 at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.
