A pair of relatively new schools led the way in Class 4A track and field district competitions last week.
Ridge Point and George Ranch swept the boys and girls championships at respective district meets last week. The Hightower girls and Elkins boys won the titles at the District 23-5A championships.
The top-four finishers in each district event advance to area meets, which were held this week. The best athletes at area meets advance to next week’s regional competitions.
District 23-4A
The George Ranch boys and girls dominated all the way around. The Foster boys and girls each placed second. The George Ranch girls defeated Foster, 173-129. The George Ranch boys won 179-128.
The girls used their depth to their advantage. They had three athletes score in five individual events and two athletes score in four others.
Destiny Rutherford and Chigozie Ogbonna each ran on the victorious 400- and 800-meter relays. Otito Omeludike, Ellie Gonzales and Alexis White each won individual events.
Kristyn Williams won the 400 and 800 for Foster. Idia Osadiaye won the 300 hurdles and placed second in the 100 hurdles. Cheyenne Oxford won the discus, and Alexis Metoyer and Alishya Charles each had one second-place finish.
Xavian Marks led the way for the George Ranch boys. He won the 100 dash and the long jump in addition to helping the 400 relay take first place. Chandler Heikkila won the 1,600 and the 3,200. Jordan Janer won the 800 and placed second in the 1,600.
Trevion Wyche won the discus, and Tylen Guidry won the triple jump and ran on the winning 400 relay.
For the Foster boys, Tracy Watson won the 200 dash and ran on the winning 800 relay. Marcus Robinson ran on the winning 800 and 1,600 relays. Marquese Green placed second in the 100 dash and was on the winning 800 relay. Andrew Martel won the triple jump.
Elsewhere in LCISD, Lamar Consolidated’s Joshua Kerr won the 400 dash.
District 22-4A
Ridge Point won its first district titles for boys and girls. Marshall’s boys and girls each placed second. Ridge Point won the boys meet, 193.5-149. The Lady Panthers won, 185-137.
Ridge Point had three of the top five boys individuals, including runner-up Bryce Deadmon. Deadmon won the 400 dash and the triple jump.
Jonah Jordan placed second in the long jump and ran on all three relays. The Panthers won the 400 and 1,600 relays and placed second in the 800 relay.
Josh Burrell was a double winner in the shot put and the discus, while Blaine Kaplani placed second in both. Shyler Staton won the high jump and placed third in the long jump.
Alex Guidry, Jameel Cook and Blake Wesley were on both winning relays.
Marshall’s Amere Lattin was the meet’s top scorer. He won the 110 hurdles and the long jump while helping the 1,600 relay to victory. He also placed second in the 300 hurdles.
Also for Marshall, Kendall Sheffield won the 300 hurdles and placed second in the 110 hurdles. Gerald Mills won the 200 dash and ran on the winning 1,600 relay. Shamon Ehiemua won the 100 dash.
Marshall’s Jaelin Hatton was the girls top scorer thanks to a victory in the 100 hurdles, a runner-up finish in the 300 hurdles and a spot on the winning 1,600 relay.
Mohogany Antoine ran on two winning relays for Marshall. Liniuska Mendoza did the same and added a runner-up finish in the 100 dash. Joi Gill finished third in the 100, second in the 200 and ran on the winning 400 relay.
Kirsten Ball led Ridge Point with victories in the 100 and 200 dashes and a spot on the winning 800 relay. Halle McClintock won the 400 and 800. Kristen Egelebo won both throwing events. Madison Boutte placed second in the 100 hurdles, third in the long jump and was on two relays that placed in the top two. Breanna Sullivan won the 1,600 and placed second in the 800.
District 23-5A
The Elkins boys scored 150 points to runner-up Clements’ 108. The Bush boys placed third with 99 points. The Hightower girls reclaimed their district crown by defeating runner-up Bush, 202-133. Elkins placed third with 84 points.
Jeia Gilliam won both throwing events for Hightower, and Jasmine Gordon won the 100 dash. Lagae Briggance won the high jump, finished second in the 200 dash and ran on the winning 800 and 1,600 relays. Destiny Aaron placed second in the 400 and ran on both winning relays.
Aaliyah Lane also ran on both winning relays. Daphney Campbell won the 300 hurdles and finished second in the 100 hurdles. Jasmine Grace won the 200 dash and ran on the winning 800 relay.
Jarra Owens (400) and Taylor Dotson (100 hurdles) each won one individual event and ran on the winning 400 relay. Destiny Mathis and Jane Arinze each had one runner-up finish.
Austin’s Bria Druilhet, a former state qualifier in the triple jump, won the triple jump and the long jump. Her teammate Tiffany Ike showed lots of versatility by finishing second in the triple jump and the shot put.
Elkins’ Jessica Monali won both distance events, defeating Clements’ Sylvia Leblanc in both. Travis’ Jillian Sweatt repeated as district champion in the pole vault.
The Elkins boys got a big performance from Marcus Gumms. He won both hurdles events and the high jump. Jaylon Bowden won the long jump and the triple jump. He led a 1-2-3 finish for the Knights in the long jump.
Andrew Hawkins also was a double winner for Elkins. He won the wheelchair 100 and the wheelchair 400. The wheelchair events are making their UIL debuts this season.
Clements’ Michael Erickson won the 800 and 1600 runs. Bush’s Kasey Poole and Hightower’s Howard Fields III each won one individual event and ran on a winning relay. Hightower’s Edward Thompson ran on two winning relays.
Dulles’ Amir James won the 100 dash and placed second in the 200.
Clements’ Confidence Okpoko and Brooks Clingman, Austin’s Brian Hsu, Bush’s Brandon Cain also won individual events.
