How Your Arthritis Can Be Managed Alternatively

How Your Arthritis Can Be Managed AlternativelyArthritis is the name given to over two hundred different kinds of inflammatory joint conditions. As there are so many individual types of arthritis it can be really difficult to treat the condition. As a general rule, arthritis is chronic, in that once you’ve got it, it’s going to be with you for the rest of your life. There are all sorts of potent drugs which you can take to help treat your arthritis and keep the condition under control but often the best way to deal with the symptoms is to use complementary treatment too. I’ve always found that modern medicine when complemented with more holistic alternative therapies is the most effective way to treat chronic conditions like arthritis.

The tricky thing with alternative therapies is that they’re not all vouched for medically. This might not matter too much to everyone but when it comes to forking out for expensive treatments, you want to be sure that there’s at least some chance they’re going to work. Each year 450 million pounds is spent on alternative therapies and a good proportion of those haven’t been medically tested.

At the end of the day, if they work for you then it doesn’t matter so much if medicine says they do or not. Most alternative therapies don’t have side effects so the only negative of treatments which don’t work is time and money wasted. It may be best to start with therapies which have shown genuine medical application however. As such, the following list may help.

  • Acupuncture has been shown to work for osteoarthritis, lower back pain and fibromyalgia
  • Massage works well for lower back pain and fibromyalgia
  • Tai chi works well for osteoarthritis
  • Yoga is effective relief for back pain

All of these alternative therapies have shown genuine effectiveness in medical trials and as such you’ll probably find them the most helpful!
