Local Auto Racing Roundup: Mark Smith goes wire-to-wire in victory at Selinsgrove Speedway
Mark Smith started on the pole of Saturday night’s 25-lap URC 360 sprint car main at Selinsgrove Speedway and was never seriously challenged as he drove to his sixth career win at the Snyder County track.
Aboard the Bryan Scandle-owned Mach-1 Chassis house car, the Sunbury driver led all the way but had to fend off Robbie Stillwaggon following a late-race restart.
The win was worth $2,500 to Smith in the win over Stillwaggon, Ryan Kissinger, Davie Franek and Larry Kelleher.
Danville’s Steve Campbell inherited the lead on the seventh lap of the 25-lap late model race and never looked back in scoring his first win of the year.
Jeff Rine led the first six laps before heading to the pits with issues turning the lead to Campbell who then defeated Ken Trevitz, Bryan Bernheisel, Jim Yoder and Hayes Mattern.
Brad Mitch scored his second pure stock win of the season over Derrick Garman, Andrew Shoop, Nathan Long and Kyle Bachman, while Keith Bissinger also won for the second time in roadrunner action over John Schoch and John Fowler, Jr.
Blaney invades and wins
Prepping for next weekend’s Bob Weikert Memorial, Hartford, Ohio, racer Dale Blaney invaded Port Royal Speedway Saturday night and won from the front row in a non stop 25-lap 410 sprint car main.
Blaney lined up on the pole for the feature and drove off from the field to post his second career track win.
Greg Hodnett started eighth and finished second over Justin Barger, Lucas Wolfe and Mike Wagner.
Brett Schadel led all 20 laps of the late model feature to win over Mike Lupfer, Justin Kann, Eric Zembower and Matt Parks.
John Braim scored a career first Pa. 305 sprint car win over Tyler Bear, Kody Lehman, Jeff Miller, Jr. and Mike Wagner II.
Myers ends drought
Greencastle late model racer DJ Myers ended a six-year dry spell at Hagerstown Speedway Saturday night.
Myers ended a winless streak that dates back to June 2008 at the Maryland track.
Myers started on the front row and had to fend off challenges from Roy Deese, Jr. before taking the win with Deese, Rick Eckert, Dylan Yoder and Brian Tavenner following.
Mike Corbin continued his domination over the pure stocks with his fourth win in five starts this season, as he defeated Frank Dibella and Wayne Hawbaker. Newville’s Danny Farling was ninth.
Gary Proctor won the hobby stock main, while Ryan Laye took the four cylinder win.
Rine scores at Bedford
After being shut out of victory lane last season at Bedford Speedway, Jeff Rine was able to find victory lane in just the second race of the season.
Rine’s 13th career track win came in Friday night’s 25-lap late model main, as he drove by Matt Parks on the 20th lap for the race-winning pass.
DJ Troutman, Dylan Yoder, Parks and Shawn Claar were the top five finishers.
Rick Singleton made it 2-for-2 in limited late model action at the track over Kyle Lee, Nathan LaSalle, Darrell Dick and Brian Lowery.
Last to first for McClelland
After blowing a motor during his heat race, Brad McClelland and his team went back to the shop to pick up the spare car and headed back to Trail-Way Speedway.
The all-time winner at the track then started 10th on the starting grid and came away with the 25-lap 358 sprint car feature win.
Randy Whisler finished second over Seth Kearchner, Matt Campbell and Zach Eucalano.
Gene Knaub won the 358 late model feature over Kyle Lear, Travis Mease, Cam Zeigler and Dominic Defino, while Bill Diehl was the Central PA Legends winner over Robert Stough, Chris McKinney, Jacob Feltch and Richard Miller.
Knaub gets third win
Gene Knaub dominated the 25-lap 358 late model feature Saturday night at Susquehanna Speedway Park.
The Dover driver defeated last week’s winner Randy Christine, Jr., Friday night Big Diamond late model winner Billy Wampler, JR Rodriguez and Steve Billet for his third overall win on the year,
Jasen Geesaman picked up his second street stock feature win over Chris Derr, Scott Thunberg, Matt Wampler and Jim Palm, Jr., while Patrick McClane won the Xtreme Stock feature.
