Nutri-Fest to display healthy lifestyles

In honor of celebrating healthy eating on campus, Health Promotion and Wellness and Campus Dining are hosting its annual Nutri-Fest event.

The free event will be from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday in the Circus Room located inside the Bone Student Center.

Erin Link, the coordinator of communications and marketing at Health Promotion and Wellness, provided more details of the event.

Nutri-Fest 2014 will include cooking demonstrations, food samples and offer health resources, Link said.

“Attendees will enjoy food and fun while getting helpful wellness information and resources from campus and community organizations,” Link said. “A variety of campus organizations will be hand serving up food samples and providing information to help people live a healthy life.”

Organizations who will participate in Nutri-Fest include the Student Wellness Ambassador Team, Campus Dining, Campus Recreation and the Horticulture Center among others from on campus. The Downtown Bloomington Farmer’s Market, Green Top Grocery, Ropp Farms and more from the community will be in attendance, she said.

The event hosts are anticipating between 300 and 400 attendees, and no registration is necessary.

Attendees are not expected to bring anything with them to the event and are free to come and go as they please between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Nutri-Fest 2014 is open to students, employees and the entirety of the ISU community, Link said.

The food samples given from the cooking demonstrations should accommodate a wide variety of dietary needs.

“However,  if someone has a special need or allergy they should double check with the person who is handing out the food item to make sure it meets their special circumstances,” Link explained.

“[Healthy eating] provides a necessary foundation for your overall wellness. Everything you do, from studying to exercising, working and even sleeping, is affected by what you eat,” she added.

Nutri-Fest will provide a place for people to learn about this necessary foundation on how to eat well, she added.

The event will also provide general health information that is available from all the nutrition organizations from both campus and the community, she said.
