‘Fishing in the City’ event at Scottsdale Pond
The Rotary Club of Novato Sunrise and the City of Novato will once again co-sponsor the California Department of Fish & Game’s ‘Fishing in the City’ program Saturday, April 26 from 8 a.m. to noon at Scottsdale Pond.
Local children and parents are invited to participate in free fishing instruction and environmental education.
Participants form in groups from station to station, learning something new along the way. By the end, all have a rigged fishing rod, small tackle box and a better understanding of their environmental surroundings.
Regular state fishing guidelines apply at Scottsdale Pond. Anyone 16 years and older must have a California fishing license. Pre-registration is advised. The last clinic begins at 10:30 a.m.
“It is a family oriented outdoor program which brings families together at the pond to teach fishing techniques and to help educate kids about conservation of natural outdoor resources,” Rotarian Cherie Ross said.
“Kids get to use fishing rods provided by the city and receive their very own tackle boxes complete with weights and hooks and instruction on how to use them.”
Scottsdale Pond will be stocked with hundreds of pounds of catfish. The equipment is provided free of charge.
The Rotary Club of Novato meets every Tuesday at Moylan’s Brewery in Novato at 7:15 a.m. For more information, visit novatosunrise.org
