Desire McHenry, Jessica Gray lead Lady Rams into Regional

 

Bastrop will be well-represented in the girls Region I-4A Meet at Benton High School on Wednesday after winning five events and tying for first in another at the District 2-4A Meet on Thursday, April 24.

 

Northwestern State University signee Desire McHenry won the 100-meter dash (12.53) and the 200m (25.86), while Jessica Gray captured the 400m (1:03.02).

 

Bastrop also won the 4 x 200m and 4 x 400m relays. Jala Tappin, McHenry, Gray and Rosalyn Carter combined for a time of 1:46.53 in the 4 x 200m, while McHenry, Devondria Jones, Gray and Sharay Hyde were clocked at 4:16.24 in the 4 x 400m.

 

Bastrop’s Jalijah Wheeler and Wossman’s Amber Eldridge tied for first in the high jump at 4-06. Wheeler added a second-place finish in the 300m hurdles.

 

Bastrop’s 4 x 200m relay team of Destini Davis, Wheeler, Tappin and Carter finished runner-up, while Hyde was second in the 400m at the District Meet.

 

Dineshia Chatman qualified for Regional with third-place times in the 800m and 3200m.

 

Also qualifying for the Lady Rams in the running events were Devondria Jones in the 100m hurdles, Jakiayah Jones in the 300m hurdles and Miranda Waters in the 1600m.

 

Rounding out the Lady Rams representatives in the field events are Tappin in the long jump, Wheeler in the triple jump, Caitlyn Robinson in the discus, Deshanae Ray in the javelin and Makayla Harden in the shot put.

 

Ashlee Sebren and Rudy Gentile were double winners as West Ouachita edged out Bastrop by five points for the District 2-4A team title.

 

Sebren won the 800m and 1600m, while Gentile took the 100m and 300m hurdles.

 

Neville also produced a double winner as Tierra Fields earned gold in the long and triple jumps.
