WARWICK — On Saturday, May 3, Town of Warwick Supervisor Michael Sweeton and Deputy Supervisor James Gerstner joined some of the founding fathers of youth lacrosse in Warwick, members of the Planning Board and a number of the WV Valley Wildcat players and families at Warwick Town Park for a fun-filled family day.

They were there to dedicate the WV Wildcats Youth Lacrosse inaugural season with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The dedication was followed by team photos and a WV Wildcats family brunch.

Founded in January, WV Wildcats Youth Lacrosse is the newest youth recreation league in Warwick and most recent member of the Mid-Hudson Youth Lacrosse League and US Lacrosse. The League has over 140 players ranging from grades K-8 and hosts three girls and four boys teams that compete against teams in the same grade-level bracket across Orange, Ulster, Dutchess, Rockland, Sussex, Passaic and Bergen counties.

The league was established to offer a true recreational program to the boys and girls of Warwick, Chester, Florida, Greenwood Lake and the surrounding areas where skill, sportsmanship, safety and fun are paramount.

Among the guiding principles of the league is collaboration with parents who, by definition as members, have the right to vote annually for the Board of Directors and have a public forum to provide input into the direction of the League.

“We are so grateful for the generosity of our local sponsors and for the many parents who have volunteered extraordinary amounts of their time, talents, and energy to help shape this league,” said Planning Board President Todd Orlando. “We would not be where we are without the help of our community. Lacrosse is a great sport. Our goal is to create a fun, educational, and positive experience and to make sure that every player feels like a valued part of this league. We want our players to be excited about coming back year after year and, maybe one day, coming back to coach the next generation of WV Wildcats Lacrosse boys and girls.”
