Brooks, Alberta, May 12, 2014 – The Brooks Bandits are proud to announce that 1993 born Defenseman Nick McCormack has committed to play at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.  Located in Duluth, MN the “Bulldogs” play in the NCHC under long time Head Coach Scott Sandelin.  UMD has a storied past and the school is only three years removed from winning the National Championship in 2011.

Nick is from Ramsey, MN and became a fan and follower of the UMD program as he grew up near by.  Nick played three seasons of high school hockey for Elk River where he put up 20 goals and 34 assists for 54 points in 74 games.  He then moved on to play junior hockey for the Minnesota Wilderness where he helped lead the team the RBC Cup.  Shortly after the RBC Nick signed on with the Bandits as a free agent and spent his last season of junior eligibility as stand out defenceman in the AJHL.  This season Nick scored 12 goals and 27 assists for 39 points and was a stable defender for the Bandits.

Head Coach/GM Ryan Papaioannou, “Our goal with Nick from the time he signed with our program was to set him up for success and allow his game to dictate where he would play next season.  His commitment to UMD is exciting for his family as he gets to stay in Minnesota and play for a tremendous hockey program.  This was a long time coming as Nick played very well this season and was consistent in his on ice performances.  He is a great person off the ice and was a mature voice in our dressing room.  I am happy that he achieved his goal and wish him the best at UMD.”

The Bandits Organization would like to congratulate Nick and his Family on his athletic and academic future.
