ALL games of hockey were played at Naracoorte grounds this weekend, therefore creating a great family atmosphere.

It is good to see most games being umpired by a practiced umpire with a buddy accompanying them for game experience.

Well done to those who have put their hands up to have a go at umpiring.

The write-up this week focuses on Greenbottles who played Brolgas on field one.

Hooked In2 Hockey

There was a good turnout with 16 eager hockey kids and the weather was perfect!

They learnt a lot of ball skills including pushing and dribbling.

They finished the session off with a little game of hockey.

There is definitely a lot of potential in these kids. Thank you to the parent helpers, especially Keiren Brennan.

It was good to see that some of the children had the opportunity to purchase hockey packs and proudly wearing their shirts and practising with their new sticks.

If you missed out and still want a pack you need to be quick as there are not many left. All payments for the packs and registering are to be paid in cash to Anne Freeman ASAP.

Don’t forget to register your child if they are doing H2H, follow the prompts on the website. Any queries contact Anne Freeman or ask when you come back to H2H next week.

U/13 West Wimmera def Greenbottles 8-0.

Goals WWB Jaali Brennan 2, Shakayla Summerhayes 2, Marcus Ferluga, Isabella Hawkins, Maddison Mutch, Sophia Shand.

Best WW Marcus Ferluga, Madi Mutch, Georgia Baxter; GB Alexander Waters, Maddie Derrington, Hugh Berry.

The young Greenbottles U/13 team faced the much fancied Broglas outfit and went down 8-0.

Greens worked hard together and played much better than the scoreline would indicate. They fought hard to hold off the strong attacks of Brolgas. The defence was led well by Hugh and Callum and Harry did his best in goal.

Cameron worked tirelessly in midfield with Henry and Alexander who made some good runs forward, as did Joe.

The girls in the forward line worked back and ran hard all game. Zoe, Maddie and Emily all did good work helping the defence. Sophie, Tilly and Hannah positioned well to help the ball forward.

Greens were happy with their efforts but Brolgas were stronger and deserved the win.

U/16 West Wimmera def Greenbottles 6-0.

Goals WWB Hattie Shand 2, Henry Hawkins, Oscar Rainsford, Laura Munn, Oliver Chaston.

Best WWB Laura Munn, Jarred Waugh, Henry Hawkins; GB Fletcher Tully, Tanah Pearce, Hamish Probert.

An outstanding game was played in the under 16 competition.

Brolgas were a good team but Greenbottles refused to give up. No matter how many goals the opposition got, they refused to quit.

Fletcher Tully was excellent in defence and attack. Tanah Pearce played as wing and listened to everything that she was told without giving up.

Hamish Probert played in defence and forward and he tried extremely hard to not let the ball go into the circle. Sammy Smith tagged Hattie Shand well the whole game.

She was able to slow down Hattie with some excellent stops. Saturday’s game was of an excellent standard with prospects looking great for the rest of the season.

Women West Wimmera def Greenbottles 5-1.

Goals WWB Rachael Lloyd 2, Sarah Fry 2, Brigitta White; GB Mia James.

Best WWB Phoebe Clutterbuck, Marie Davis, Brigitta White; GB Merrin Martin, Tanah Pearce, Mia James.

Brolgas headed to Naracoorte on a dull afternoon full of confidence after two massive wins.

Greenbottles were determined to put up a fight against this quality attacking team.

Greens’ defence worked hard during the first half and it was only when the heavens opened that Brolgas were able to break the deadlock.

At half time it was 3-0 to Brolgas. Greens came out firing on all cylinders in the second half and were rewarded with a quick Mia James goal.

Greens’ defence was working tirelessly as Brolgas kept attacking, with great clearances on the post from Merrin Martin and excellent defence from Shannan Derrington and the rest of the quality Greens defensive line-up.

With Greens tiring but with their heads and hearts still in the game Brolgas scored two more

Men Greenbottles def West Wimmera 3-2.

Goals GB Charlie Legoe, Alex Ghezzi, James Schubert; WWB Steve Chaston, Darren Ferluga.

Best WWB Matt Waugh, David Smith, Craig Smith; GB Alex Ghezzi, Charlie Legoe, Scott Murray.

In what was billed to be the match of the timeslot, the tension was building on the sidelines between these two powerhouse teams. Brolgas had good numbers, however their counterparts had a few less, with Derrington still on the sidelines with a foot injury and Drew passing the keeping gloves to childhood prodigy Joel Thomas.

Cattermole went down early with some friendly fire to his laughing gear. Both teams were to and fro all day with Greens coming out on top, however the result may change next time these two clubs meet in Edenhope. The usual suspects played well. There were no reports issued.
