PLYMOUTH | The traveling series of the Winged Outlaw Sprints on Dirt visited the Plymouth Speedway on Saturday night, and Randy Hannagan won the 25-lap Earl Gaerte Classic main event.

Hannagan, a California native who now lives in Pittsboro, Ind., wheeled his Yoakam Motorsports winged, open-wheel, sprint car around the outside of teammate Dennis Yoakam for the lead on lap 12 and held the top spot the rest of the way. Hannagan defeated Danny Lasoski, Yoakam, Shawn Dancer and Dustin Daggett.

Lasoski, one of the country’s top sprint car drivers, moved to second place on lap 19 and looked to be in a good position to challenge for the lead when a yellow caution flag slowed the action with two laps to go. Lasoski was right behind leader Hannagan for a two-lap dash to the checkered flag, but a serious challenge never materialized.

“The track really came in nice and there were two grooves,” Hannagan said. “I was happy to start where I did (third in the 20-car field) and didn’t have to pass many cars.”

Lake Village’s Jamie Lomax won the 20-lap DIRTcar United Midwestern Promoters Modified stock car feature race. It’s his third victory of the season at the three-eighths mile dirt track and his eighth overall in UMP Modified competition. Off to a great early-season start, the 35-year old driver is currently leading the UMP “national” standings.

Starting on the inside of the front row, Lomax never looked back and sailed to the win over Rensselaer’s Derek Losh. Valparaiso’s Frank Marshall, the UMP Modified track champion, finished third, followed by Wheatfield’s Nick Allen and Tommy Beezley II.

“I drew a four and that put us on the pole,” Lomax said. “(The car) was pretty locked down on the bottom (groove.). All I had to do was hold it on the bottom and go on.

“There was a great field of cars here tonight. I raced at Chandler (Ind.) last night and got torn up. We worked on the car till four in the morning, got some sleep and then woke up and worked all day on it. We got here late.”

Gary’s Michael Clark was the winner of the Super Street division 20-lap feature. Clark held a half-lap lead at the finish over Travis Wolford of Winamac. Beezley II was third.

Rensselaer’s Eric Brown claimed top honors in the 15-lap feature for Thunder Stock division drivers. Winamac’s Bryce Shidler came in second. Brook’s Paul Minter was third.

Illiana and Shadyhill races canceled: Rainy weather forced both Illiana Motor Speedway in Schererville and Shadyhill Speedway in Medaryville to cancel their Saturday night stock car racing programs.
