Simultaneous reading Wednesday

The National Simultaneous Storytime is an important annual campaign that aims to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books.

A picture book by an Australian author is read simultaneously across the country on the same day and at the same time, in libraries, schools, homes and many other places.

This year’s book is Too Many Elephants in the House by Ursula Dubosarsky and will be read in the library at 11 am on Wednesday May 21.

Come and join in the fun with a very special storyteller at Wellington Library.

May 20 will be the start of the library’s All Age Winter Reading Program which runs until July 31.

Join the dots to win is bingo with a difference, you will be using books instead of numbers, get three in a row to win.

Just register for your Book Bingo program at any branch of the library, pick up your bingo card and start reading. Just ask the staff next time you’re in.

From the Feet Up by Tanya Saad – This dazzling memoir reveals one woman’s determination to overcome the odds and survive a frightening prognosis.

Tanya Saad’s life wasn’t perfect but it wasn’t far off. Happily occupied with a demanding job, the competitive cycling she loved and the support of her irrepressible family, she wasn’t given to introspection. Then the thunderbolt hit.

At the age of 30, Tanya discovered she had tested positive for the BRCA1 gene fault, which meant her chances of developing breast and ovarian cancer young had just increased exponentially.

Worse was to come when one of her beloved younger sisters tested positive, too. Told with great verve and humour, this memoir questions what it is that makes you a woman.

Boyfriends We’ve All Had (And Shouldn’t Have) by Mandy Nolan turns her acerbic wit onto boyfriends past and no-one escapes her observations.

From the needy besotted drip to the brooding unavailable bad boy, from Mr New Age to Mr Moody, Mandy has seen them all come and go in her quest for Mr Right.

This is a hilarious and revealing look at the emotional, pot-boiling mess and angst of romantic relationships. It’s wicked. Sometimes touching. But always funny. And did we mention wicked? You have been warned.
