MIDDLEBOROUGH – Theatre One Productions (TOP) will present a staged reading of “The Annulment,” a new play by Sheila Kelleher, of Plymouth, at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at the Middleborough Public Library, located at 102 North Main St., Middleborough. This special event is offered free to the public, and will be followed immediately by an open discussion and Q&A with the playwright. The reading is directed by Peg Saurman Holzemer, TOP’s producing artistic director.
After audiences at Theatre One’s 2013 “Slice of Life” new works festival voted the 10-minute version of “The Annulment” into first place, Holzemer asked its creator, Plymouth-based actor/director Kelleher, to expand it into a full-length play. The one-hour June 14 staged reading represents the next step in the play’s development. Combined with the post-performance discussion with Kelleher, it’s a rare opportunity to go behind the scenes of a creative work in progress.
Admission is free, and no reservations are necessary. The event is recommended for audience members of high school age and older, and will be held in the multipurpose room downstairs at the Middleborough Public Library. Theatre One is a nonprofit 501c3 theatre company. At all of its performances donations of nonperishable food items will be accepted for the Middleborough COA Senior Pantry.
